Philosophy & Approach
Collaborative, trauma-informed therapy helping couples and individuals build healthier, more connected relationships.
Couples Therapy Online is a modern online counselling and psychotherapy service specialising in couples therapy, relationship counselling, and individual support for people wanting to improve the way they connect, communicate, and relate.
Our work is grounded in a relational, trauma-informed, and attachment-focused framework, with an emphasis on understanding both the emotional and behavioural patterns that sit beneath relationship distress. Rather than focusing only on surface-level symptoms, therapy explores the deeper dynamics that shape how people respond to conflict, closeness, trust, and vulnerability.
Our clinicians are tertiary-qualified mental health professionals based in Australia and Ireland and are registered with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia and the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. We work with clients online across both countries and internationally, offering accessible and flexible therapy designed for real-life pressures, busy schedules, and modern relationships.
Our practice integrates a range of evidence-informed approaches, including Humanistic and Client-Centred Therapy, the Gottman Method, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Family Systems Theory, and contemporary trauma-informed practice. This allows us to tailor therapy to each couple or individual, rather than applying a fixed or prescriptive model.
A key focus of our work is helping clients make sense of repeated relational patterns, such as cycles of conflict, emotional withdrawal, disconnection, or difficulty expressing needs, and supporting them to develop new ways of engaging that feel safer and more connected. We also place strong emphasis on emotional regulation, communication skills, and rebuilding trust where relationships have been impacted by rupture or long-term strain.
Sessions are collaborative and grounded in respect, curiosity, and emotional safety. Clients are supported to slow down their experiences, understand what is happening beneath the surface in moments of tension, and build greater awareness of both their own internal responses and their relational dynamics.
While couples therapy is at the core of our service, we also work with individuals who want to explore relationship history, attachment patterns, family influences, anxiety, identity, and life transitions.
Our aim is to support not only relief from distress, but a more grounded and sustainable way of relating, where clients can experience greater clarity, emotional steadiness, and connection in their relationships and within themselves.
